Black-winged Petrel
Pterodroma nigripennis
A small petrel with relatively long, broad wings. The underwings appear darker than in most other small petrels because of the wide black margin around the edges of the wings and a broad black diagonal bar on the inner wing. Migrates through Hawaiian waters, usually from spring through fall. Regularly seen offshore from boats, occasionally from shore.

The black-winged petrel is a small species of petrel with long, narrow wings. Its length averages 29 centimetres (11 in) and its wingspan averages 67 centimetres (26 in). It has a small head and short black beak, a slender body and square-cut tail. It has a pale grey cap and nape, white cheeks and a dark grey collar. The dorsal surface of the body is pale grey and the upperside of the wings is pale grey near the base but dark greyish-black along the outer edge. The underparts are white and the outer edges of the wings are black. The tail is barred in black and white.

The black-winged petrel is a pelagic species native to the East Pacific Ocean, living out at sea and only coming to land in order to breed. Its breeding range stretches from Lord Howe Island and eastern Australia to New Caledonia, New Zealand (the Kermadec Islands, Three Kings Islands, Chatham Islands) and the Austral Islands (French Polynesia) in the east. The largest colony in the world is on Macauley Island (Kermadec Islands). Outside the breeding season it migrates further north and most commonly occurs in a broad belt of ocean between Peru and Hawaii.

Yellow-browed Antbird
Hypocnemis hypoxantha
Rather small antbird with a disjunct distribution. Males have a yellow face and underparts with a black crown, eye-line, and streaks on the breast. Females have a yellow streaked crown. Southeastern subspecies has ochraceous lower underparts. Song is a descending and decelerating series of fluted notes becoming harsher at the end. Found in the understory of humid forests, often in areas of transitional forest or poor soils. Rarely accompanies mixed-species flocks. The similar Spix's and Peruvian Warbling-Antbirds have white breasts, and the song of Peruvian is somewhat slower-paced.
Chestnut-backed Thrush

A striking thrush with a black-and-white head pattern, a chestnut back, prominent white wing markings, a black chest, large black splotching down the flanks, and a white belly. Juveniles show chestnut spots above, black-spotted buffy underparts, and buff wingbars. Found in forests in the lowlands and foothills, foraging singly on the ground. Restricted to the Lesser Sundas. Separated from Chestnut-capped Thrush by chestnut back, black cap, and small white throat. Song consists of rich cadences, typical of thrushes. Call is a quiet, thin rasping note.

Todirostrum viridanum
Tiny and faded-looking bird with long pointed bill and slender tail. Head gray with blackish forehead; upperparts greenish and underparts pale yellow; tail black. Common, alone or in pairs in arid regions with scrub or forest. Distinguished from similar Common Tody-Flycatcher by paler, more faded coloration and whitish mark above lores. Endemic to arid regions of northwestern Venezuela.
