Maracaibo Tody-Flycatcher

A bulky, mostly pale white-eye with a whitish head and belly and gray-brown wings and tail. Small to large groups join mixed flocks in forest and plantations throughout Príncipe. Calls include a high-pitched chittering, uttered as a group, and a repeated “tsit-tit-cher-it-it” song. Principe Speirops may join the same flocks as Principe White-eye, which is slightly smaller and much darker, lacking the distinctive white head and underparts. 

The largest nuthatch in North America, with distinctive white face, black cap, and blue-gray upperparts. Also note rusty lower belly and undertail coverts. Females have a slightly paler crown than males. Fairly common and widespread, usually in mature woodlands with large trees. Creeps along tree trunks and branches, often upside-down. Sometimes joins mixed flocks with other songbirds. Visits feeders. Listen for insistent yammering calls. Some subtle variation across range, mainly in the darkness of the sides and back, width of the black crown, and vocalizations.

Small jet-black seabird of coastal areas of the Pacific. Breeding plumage is black with bold white wing patch and bright red legs. Plumage changes dramatically in winter to whitish overall with dusky markings on body and black wingtips. Often found in shallower coastal waters than other alcids and regularly seen from shore. Dives to hunt for fish and invertebrates. Nests in crevice or burrow in a cliff or around large rocks.
