Chestnut-backed Thrush
Geokichla dohertyi
A striking thrush with a black-and-white head pattern, a chestnut back, prominent white wing markings, a black chest, large black splotching down the flanks, and a white belly. Juveniles show chestnut spots above, black-spotted buffy underparts, and buff wingbars. Found in forests in the lowlands and foothills, foraging singly on the ground. Restricted to the Lesser Sundas. Separated from Chestnut-capped Thrush by chestnut back, black cap, and small white throat. Song consists of rich cadences, typical of thrushes. Call is a quiet, thin rasping note.

Sinaloa Wren
Thryophilus sinaloa
Small skulking wren of lowlands and foothills in West Mexico. Plumage rather plain, with bold white eyebrow and diffuse stripes on sides of neck. Compare with brighter rufous and buffy Happy Wren, which also has a more distinct black mustache stripe. Sinaloa Wren favors thorn forests, plantations, and thickets, often in slightly more open habitats than Happy Wren. Heard more often than seen. Song is a powerful series of rich whistles, quite different from sweeter Happy Wren song. Scolding calls vary, but does not make “comb trill” of Happy.
Purplish Jay
Cyanocorax cyanomelas
Large, dark jay with deep purplish-blue coloration and a darker head. This species tends to move in raucous groups through the midstory and canopy of tall forest and edge. Where it overlaps with Violaceous Jay, Purplish tends to be less common and more tied to higher-quality habitat; note also the darker coloration of Purplish Jay. Vocalizations include variations on a low, harsh “jeeer!”.
Rufous Bristlebird
Dasyornis broadbenti
A skulking red-brown bird with a long tail that has a rough uneven tip. Upperparts rich reddish brown, especially wings and crown, underparts gray-brown with speckling. Obvious pale eyering, lores, and moustachial marks. Feeds on the ground in dense coastal shrubland and heathland, runs rapidly with head down. Calls include a gentle series of repeated thin clear "chit" notes followed by a slurred whistled phrase.
