Tenggara Whistler
Pachycephala calliope
Medium-sized songbird, endemic to the Lesser Sundas and far eastern Java. Throughout much of range, the typical Golden-type Whistler: brightly-colored males have a striking black-and-white head and flashy yellow collar, breast, and belly, while considerably duller females are brownish overall with paler underparts, whitish throat, and yellow vent. Like other Pacycephala whistlers, a forest species, often seen gleaning insects from the foliage, or heard giving its loud, vibrant, rising song. Also gives a rising “weet” call.

Compared to other members of the golden whistler group, the rusty-breasted whistler is relatively small, and males have a white throat and a rust-tinged chest, except in the subspecies teysmanni from Selayar Islands where the plumage of the male is female-like.

The rusty-breasted whistler is variably considered as either a subspecies of the widespread Australian golden whistler or treated as a separate species, but strong published evidence in favour of either treatment is limited, and further study is warranted to resolve the complex taxonomic situation. The name 'rusty-breasted whistler' is also used as an alternate name for the rusty whistler.<p>Five subspecies are recognized:

It is the westernmost member of the golden whistler group, being bordered to the east by the black-chinned and yellow-throated whistlers, and to the south by the Australian golden whistler.

Great Crested Tern
Thalasseus bergii
A large elegant tern with a very long lemon-yellow bill. Black cap does not extend down to the bill. Juvenile is scaly-looking with much more black on the back and wings. Similar Lesser Crested Tern is smaller with black cap extending down to the bill in breeding plumage. Occurs along coasts and estuaries; very rarely further inland or on freshwater ponds/lagoons.
Peruvian Booby
Sula variegata
Common and conspicuous seabird of coastlines and inshore waters along the Humboldt Current. Sometimes in flocks of hundreds, diving steeply into the sea among feeding frenzies of cormorants, gulls, and terns. Also seen perched on jetties and cliffs; often with cormorants and pelicans. Adult is distinctive with a snow-white head and neck, and dark upperparts with white scaling on back. Juvenile is dingier overall with a dusky head and body. Compare with Blue-footed Booby (often occurs with Peruvian), which always has white body contrasting with dusky neck.
Ashy Myzomela
Myzomela cineracea
A small to medium-sized honeyeater of lowland and foothill secondary forest on New Britain. Dull gray plumage which is darker on the head and in flight has white underwings. Found in the understory where it usually forages for epiphytic flowers. Co-occurs with Sclater’s, Red and Black-bellied Myzomelas but Ashy is larger and lacks red. Similar to Bismarck Black Myzomela and Black Sunbird, but Ashy is larger and gray rather than black. Call, a scratchy, nasal “rek” given in an uneven rhythm.
