Steel-blue Whydah
Vidua hypocherina
A nest parasite that lays its eggs in the nests of Black-cheeked and Black-faced Waxbills. As with other whydahs, breeding males are distinctive, whereas non-breeding males and females are drab and inconspicuous. Breeding males are glossy blue-black with elongated central tail feathers. Non-breeding males and females have a brownish back, a heavily striped face, and a whitish bill and legs. Generally uncommon in rather dry savanna and woodland. Non-breeding male and female can be cautiously separated from other whydahs and indigobirds by their pale bill and legs. Not very vocal, but does imitate the waxbills that it parasitizes.

Andaman Coucal
Centropus andamanensis
A large, pale-brown, ground-dwelling cuckoo with rusty wings and back. Skulks in bushes and low cover, where it moves clumsily as it searches for small invertebrates, small mammals, and birds to prey on. Like other coucals, it is a cuckoo that builds its own nest. Common throughout its range in gardens, groves, disturbed forests, paddyfields, etc. The song is a series of deep and resonant “hoop” notes.
Common Hill Myna

Glossy black myna with bright yellow head wattles. Also note bright candlewax-orange bill and white wing patches that are most apparent in flight. A species of mature humid forest and forest edge, often seen in pairs or small flocks flying between or perched up in tall trees. Famed for its wide repertoire: gives a myriad of screams, squeaks, chirps, and whistles. Threatened by its popularity in the cage bird trade.
Surf Cinclodes
Cinclodes taczanowskii
Brown thrush-like bird of the Peruvian coastline; it never ventures very far from the ocean. Note the buffy wing markings and white streaking on the throat, though its highly specialized habitat is the best identification feature; any brown land bird foraging at the edge of the sea is likely to be this species. Prefers rocky areas over sandy beaches; also seen along concrete embankments.
