Mayr's Swiftlet

A drab sparrow of dry country. Males have a mostly gray head with a rufous eyebrow. Females have a broad pale eyebrow. Both sexes have a white throat. Found in savanna and broadleaf woodland. Similar to Yellow-throated Bush Sparrow, but separated by the eyebrow mark and the smaller size. Female is similar to female sparrows such as House Sparrow, but has a longer bill and a broader pale eyebrow stripe. The call is a ringing “chree,” often given in rapid series. 

A small, plump flycatcher-like songbird with uniform olive-green upperside and entirely lemon-yellow underside. Note the yellow mark between bill and eye, contrasting with a dark line through the eye. Occupies lowland forest and mangroves, typically singly or in pairs. Restricted to the Tanimbar Islands, where there are no other similar small, bright yellow songbirds. Simple song is a series of three high-pitched whistles, “wit-too-wee.” Calls include high, thin “seeE” notes, accentuated at the end.

Small, attractive flycatcher that lives near rushing streams inside Andean cloud forest. Its white eyebrows really stand out and can look like headlights in the dark forest; plumage is otherwise gray and chestnut. Often gives a high, buzzy “zwheer” that can be heard above the sound rushing water. When agitated, also gives a series of “doo-wip” calls. Birds found south of extreme northern Peru are now considered a separate species, Maroon-belted Chat-Tyrant.
