Baird's Flycatcher
Myiodynastes bairdii
Large, stout-billed flycatcher restricted to arid areas and oases of northwestern Peru and western Ecuador. Distinctive in range, with yellow belly, chestnut wings and tail, and black mask. It does not occur together with the similar Golden-crowned Flycatcher, which is a cloud forest species. Typically sits high up on a tree, pole, wire, or other elevated perch. Sallies out to catch insects, and also regularly eats fruit.

Araripe Manakin
Chiroxiphia bokermanni
Strikingly beautiful white manakin with a red crown and black tail and flight feathers. Females are olive-green, paler below; note the short crest above the bill. Has a tiny geographic range on the borders of the Araripe Plateau, where it is found in woodland near water. Has a pleasant call “guru-uí”, similar to Helmeted Manakin calls.

Raucous, conspicuous shorebird. Distinctive color pattern with black breast, white belly, gray head, and bronzy shoulder. Wings boldly patterned in flight. Often in pairs or small flocks in open habitats, usually near water but also in dry pastures. Loud grating call is a good clue to its presence.
White-chinned Jacamar
Galbula tombacea
Similar to many other species of jacamar: mostly glittering emerald-green with a rufous belly, long tail, and long pointed bill. Sexes are similar; female has a paler belly. Found in northwestern Amazonia, where pairs occur in the lower to mid-levels of mature lowland forest, often around water. Namesake white chin is not super conspicuous but usually visible. Also note brownish crown. Most similar to Bluish-fronted Jacamar, but apparently no range overlap.
