Golden-chested Tanager
Bangsia rothschildi
Rare tanager restricted to very wet forest along the base of the Andes in northwestern Ecuador and western Colombia. Both sexes are deep blue with a brilliant yellow patch on both the breast and the lower underparts. Usually seen in middle to upper forest levels, and it tends to perch more vertically than other tanagers. It does not typically associate with mixed-species flocks.

Bangsia rothschildi is endemic to the northwestern South American countries of Colombia and Ecuador. The Golden-chested Tanager can be found in a narrow elevational band of humid and heavily forested tropical lowland evergreen forests, pre-montane forests, forest borders and edges, and pluvial foothill forests in the Lower Tropical Zone in Ecuador and Colombia. Typically the species is seen in the mid-levels and subcanopy forest strata. Additional habitats used by this species include Montane Evergreen Forest.

Yellow-browed Shrike-Vireo
Vireolanius eximius
This striking vireo is found in the canopy of lowland forest in northern Colombia and western Venezuela. The lime green upperparts contrast with a bright yellow eyebrow and throat, fading to paler yellow on the belly. Note the blue crown and thick bill with slight hook at the tip typical of vireos. No other species are bright green with such a hefty bill. Look for singles or pairs moving slowly in the trees, sometimes with a mixed-species flock. Sings a song with a few descending whistled notes.

Hypocolius ampelinus
A slender, pale gray bird with a short bill and a long black-tipped tail. The male has a black face. This distinctive species occurs in arid scrub, desert, and nearby farmlands. Usually found in small flocks, often seen feeding on fruiting trees and bushes. Calls include short, squeaky wails and whistles.
Pink-rumped Rosefinch
Carpodacus waltoni
Inhabits open areas such as edges and shrubby expanses. Male is streaky brown above and bright pink below with a similarly-colored brow that flares open towards the back. Averages paler and sandier brown on the back than Chinese and Himalayan Beautiful Rosefinches, and has a brighter and more extensive pink rump than either species. Female is brown and streaky and difficult to distinguish from other female rosefinches; look out for extensive and clear streaking all down the underparts, a weak pale brow, and a finely streaked crown. Usually gives sharp ticking and tinking calls.
