Black Solitaire
Entomodestes coracinus
This striking thrush is unmistakable if seen well: mostly jet black with a white cheek, white tuft under the shoulder, and white outer tail feathers (easily visible from below). Also note red eye and orange lower mandible. Sexes similar. Generally uncommon to rare in limited range in western Colombia and Ecuador, but can be numerous in the right places. Seems to be found most frequently in very humid, mossy cloud forest, but undergoes poorly-known movements perhaps in relation to food availability. Usually seen singly in the middle to upper levels of forest. Listen for the simple song, an even whistled note with a slightly rough tone, given at widely-spaced intervals.

Starred Wood-Quail
Odontophorus stellatus
Rotund brown bird of lowland rainforest understory. Reddish brown with small gray spots. Males have a dull red and gray facial pattern. Usually found in groups, but occasionally encountered singly or in pairs. Secretive and hard to see, but occasionally encountered foraging on the ground or flushing underfoot. Frequently heard after dusk and more rarely just before dawn, when pairs or groups sing in symphony, a series of continuous low caroling notes.

Chapin's Flycatcher
Fraseria lendu
An extremely drab flycatcher that is gray-brown on the back and slightly paler below. With a good view, the short pale line above the bill is visible. A scarce and localized species of humid forest at middle elevations. Similar to African Dusky Flycatcher, but slightly larger and completely unstreaked on the underparts. Separated from other flycatchers by its plainness. The call is a short, spitting trill and the song is a long series of whistles, squeaks, and trills, given at high speed.

Lemon-bellied White-eye
Zosterops chloris
Bright yellowish white-eye with a disjunct island range; found from southwestern Borneo to southern Papua. Compare carefully with other local white-eyes. Favors open coastal forest, forest edge, scrubby areas, gardens, plantations, and towns; can be abundant on small islands. Song is a jumbled series of high-pitched notes; it is a common sound during early mornings and late evenings on islands. Calls include sharp descending cheeps and sparrow-like tweets.
