Southern Tropical Pewee

Small, slim, long-tailed songbird of montane forests, usually vocal, active, and encountered in large flocks. Males have a bright orange belly, a comma-shaped slash on the wing, and a gray head and back. Females are similarly patterned, but have paler upperparts and white throat, with the male's orange replaced by yellow. Female resembles female Long-tailed Minivet, which has yellow forehead patch, lacking in Gray-chinned. Birds in Borneo, Sumatra, and the southern Malay Peninsula average darker-headed than populations elsewhere. Most calls are soft, high, and sibilant, given in flight.

Large gray goose. Rather bulky and overall brownish gray with a big pinkish-orange bill and pinkish legs. In flight shows extensively pale gray leading edge to upperwings, rather pale underwing coverts, and broad white tail tip. Compare to other gray geese, which differ in details of bill pattern and color, head and neck pattern, and have dark underwings. Inhabits lakes, marshes, and wetlands, and even urban parks in parts of its European range.

A common and fairly large honeyeater of lower and mid-montane forest and clearings. Distinctively patterned with a black back scaled white, white belly with black scalloped flanks, black breast band, black head with large-orange yellow eye wattle, black chin and a small red mark in the base of the bill. Other melidectes co-occur but are larger and none have the white belly and breastband. Call, a loud, hollow “chok!” often followed by a slightly raspy, hollow warble.
