Sjöstedt's Greenbul
Baeopogon clamans
A unusual dark greenbul often found near water in the forest interior. Decorated in various shades of dark and olive green, with a gray throat that contrasts with the breast, a buffy belly, and bright white sides of the tail. Can be confused with both Honeyguide Greenbul and actual honeyguides, but the flight is direct rather than undulating, the throat contrasts with the breast, the eyes are always dark, and the vocalizations are distinctive. Can be located by its “REHR!” calls, often followed by a series of fast, scratchy notes and sometimes repeated for minutes on end.

Sjöstedt's greenbul was originally described in the genus Xenocichla (a synonym for Bleda), then re-classified to Baeopogon. The common name commemorates the Swedish ornithologist Bror Yngve Sjöstedt. Alternate names for Sjöstedt's greenbul include Sjöstedt's bulbul, Sjöstedt's honeyguide bulbul, Sjöstedt's honeyguide greenbul, Sjöstedt's white-tailed greenbul and white-tailed greenbul. The latter alternate name is also used by the honeyguide greenbul and the swamp palm bulbul.

It is found from south-eastern Nigeria and western Cameroon to Central African Republic and extreme north-western Angola; central and eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo. Its natural habitat is subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests.

Cattle Tyrant
Machetornis rixosa
Medium sized flycatcher with fairly widespread range in South America. Superficially resembles a Tropical Kingbird with olive-brown back, yellow belly, and grayish crown. However, Cattle Tyrant is unique for typically being found on or near the ground, where pairs or small flocks follow grazing animals. Found in open habitats including farmland and marshes.

A small finchlike species with a short and stubby bill. Males are mostly gray with a white chin and central belly with white spots on the wings. Females are olive-brown above and buff below, and lack the white wing spot. Inhabits tall mature grasslands, often near water; often forms flocks with other seedaters.
Red Shoveler
Spatula platalea
Distinctive dabbling duck: combination of very large, slightly shovel-shaped black bill and and pale blue forewing patches (brighter on male) identify all plumages. Male has a pale gray head with pale yellow eyes and a “red” body with black spots. Female is mottled brown overall, but note white sides to pointed tail, big black bill. Fairly common in wetlands and at lakes, river mouths, and sewage lagoons. Unlike many dabbling ducks, often rather quiet.
