Yucatan Woodpecker
Melanerpes pygmaeus
Like a small version of Golden-fronted Woodpecker. Found in woodland, beach scrub, semi-open wooded habitats; usually less numerous than Golden-fronted. Yucatan populations of Golden-fronted Woodpecker very similar in plumage, but Yucatan Woodpecker has a much shorter bill, ‘egg-yolk’ yellow feathering around the bill base (vs. reddish on local Golden-fronteds), and relatively wider white barring on back (looks silvery at a distance, vs. blackish overall on Golden-fronted). Voice is quite different from Golden-fronted.
识别特征
The adult Yucatan woodpecker is 17 cm (6.7 in) in length. Adults are mainly light gray on the face and underparts; they have black and white barred patterns on their back, wings and tail. Adult males have a red cap going from the eye to the nape, whereas the red cap is only in the occipital area in the females. There are yellow feathers around the base of the bill. There may be a yellowish tinge to the belly and a red wash to the vent area.
The plumage of the Yucatan woodpecker is very similar in appearance to that of the golden-fronted woodpecker (Melanerpes aurifrons), which is also found throughout the entire Yucatán Peninsula. It can be very difficult to distinguish between these two species in the field. The golden-fronted woodpecker — which is much more common than the Yucatan woodpecker — has a larger body and a longer beak, and the female has more red on the nape of the neck than that of the Yucatan woodpecker. The golden-fronted woodpecker also has reddish feathers at the base of the bill, whereas the Yucatan Woodpecker has yellow feathers surrounding the base of the bill. The barring pattern on the back of the golden-fronted woodpecker is such that it has a blackish appearance from a distance, whereas that of the Yucatan woodpecker has a silvery appearance from a distance. Finally, the vocalization of the Yucatan woodpecker is also quite different from that of the golden-fronted woodpecker.
Although the Yucatan woodpecker is also very similar in appearance to the red-crowned woodpecker (Melanerpes rubricapillus), the distribution of these two species does not overlap.

Ochre-breasted Foliage-gleaner
Anabacerthia lichtensteini
Medium-sized foliage-gleaner with a short bill and attractive head pattern giving it a “cute” look. The crown and mask are gray-brown contrasting with a buffy-yellow eyebrow and throat. Buffy and unstreaked below and rufous-brown above. Found in the upper levels of forests and second growth. The song is a short fast trill.

Blue-faced Parrotfinch
Erythrura trichroa
Colorful small finch, usually found in grassy forest clearings or forest edge habitats, often in close association with bamboo. Favors foothills and montane areas throughout much of its range, but descends into coastal lowlands on small islands and in the far eastern end of its range, on Australia’s Cape York Peninsula. Bright green plumage, with an obvious blue face and red tail and rump. Juveniles lack the blue face and are slightly duskier below. Forages at all levels of forest, from the ground up into the canopy, often taking seeds from grasses and bamboo. Call very thin and high-pitched.

Salvadori's Pheasant
Lophura inornata
Chunky pheasant endemic to Sumatra’s highlands and foothills. Male is dark iridescent blue, while the female is warm brown with a dark tail. Both sexes have short tails, bright red patches of bare facial skin, and pale bills with a faint hook. Forages quietly on the forest floor, typically singly, sometimes in pairs. Generally fairly quiet; deep “bwoop” contact calls sometimes given, and males give a wing-whirring display that can be audible at close range.
