Ochre-breasted Foliage-gleaner
Anabacerthia lichtensteini
Medium-sized foliage-gleaner with a short bill and attractive head pattern giving it a “cute” look. The crown and mask are gray-brown contrasting with a buffy-yellow eyebrow and throat. Buffy and unstreaked below and rufous-brown above. Found in the upper levels of forests and second growth. The song is a short fast trill.

The ochre-breasted foliage-gleaner is 15 to 17 cm (5.9 to 6.7 in) long and weighs 18 to 24 g (0.63 to 0.85 oz). It is a medium-sized furnariid with a wedge-shaped bill that is the shortest in its genus. The sexes have the same plumage. Adults have an ochraceous eye ring and sharply defined supercilium, a dark brownish band behind the eye, dull rufous-ochre ear coverts, and pale brownish lores. Their crown is dull gray-brown with vague paler streaks, their back rufescent brown, and their rump and uppertail coverts a slightly lighter rufescent brown. Their tail is mostly rufous with rufescent brown outer webs on the innermost pair of feathers. Their wings are rufous brown with duskier tips on the flight feathers. Their throat and malar area are bright ochraceous buff, their upper breast a richer ocraceous buff, and the rest of their underparts a duller ocraceous buff. Their iris is brown, their maxilla brownish gray, their mandible light gray, and their legs and feet greenish gray. Juveniles have less uniformly colored underparts than adults, and those feathers have grayish tips.
分类信息
The ochre-breasted foliage-gleaner was previously included in genus Philydor but a 2011 paper made it plain that it did not belong there. The same paper found the white-browed foliage-gleaner (A. amaurotis) and the ochre-breasted to be sister species.<p>The ochre-breasted foliage gleaner is monotypic.

The ochre-breasted foliage-gleaner is found in southeastern Brazil from Bahia, Goiás, and Mato Grosso do Sul south into Rio Grande do Sul, in eastern Paraguay, and in northeastern Argentina's Misiones Province. It inhabits montane evergreen forest and tall secondary forest. In elevation it ranges from sea level to 800 m (2,600 ft).

The ochre-breasted foliage-gleaner is a year-round resident throughout its range.<p>The ochre-breasted foliage-gleaner feeds on arthropods. It usually forages as part of mixed-species feeding flocks, and usually from the forest's mid-storey to its canopy. It acrobatically gleans and pulls for its prey in dead leaves, debris, and branches.<p>Nothing is known about the ochre-breasted foliage-gleaner's breeding biology.<p>The ochre-breasted foliage-gleaner's song is a "series of up to 10 estr. high, piercing 'zipzip---' notes". Its call is a "short, very high, inhaled trill".

Common Newtonia
Newtonia brunneicauda
Energetic and pugnacious little plain-brown vanga. The eye is white, and the center of the chest usually orange. Madagascar endemic that is found in all types of forest. Constantly on the move through the mid-story, usually in pairs. Often joins flocks with vangas and other mid-sized birds. Song is an explosive, rollicking series of two-parted notes: “chi-pu, chi-pu, chi-pu….” Pale eye and paler overall coloration separate it from Dark Newtonia. Pale eye also separates Common Newtonia from the rare Red-tailed Newtonia. Similar to Archbold’s Newtonia, but without rufous around the eye.
Hook-billed Kite
Chondrohierax uncinatus
Widespread raptor of tropical America, occasionally reaching as far north as southern Texas. It can be identified in all plumages by its fiercely hooked bill and yellow or orange spots on face and bill. In flight, note the blunt, bulbous wings, strongly barred flight feathers, and broad tail bands. Male is mostly gray with faint white or tan barring on the underparts. Female has a brown collar and brown and white barred underparts; the pattern and color vary somewhat throughout its range. Juvenile is mostly white below with very sparse barring. Common call is a quick, shrill cackle. Inhabits both dry and humid forest at all but the highest elevations, and often seen soaring with other raptors or vultures.
Swamp Sparrow
Melospiza georgiana
A medium-sized sparrow with attractive rufous and gray pattern. Slightly smaller than Song Sparrow, with a blurrier look overall (like a watercolor vs. an oil painting). Look for bright reddish-brown wings and relatively plain underparts. Adults are plain grayish below with buffy sides; males have a rufous crown. Immatures often show buffy tones on the face and streaking on the underparts, but never as crisp and extensive as Lincoln’s Sparrow. Breeds in cattail marshes and other wetlands; found in a variety of shrubby habitats during migration and winter, but often in wet areas. Typically not in flocks with other sparrows, and rarely visits feeders. Compare especially with Song and Lincoln’s Sparrows.
