Black-chinned Antbird

Adult shows a dark brown crested head, a white throat with central streak, a rufous breast with bold streaking, a densely barred belly, and feathered thighs. In flight, note densely barred body and forewings, sparse bars on outer wing, and evenly barred tail. Immatures show white on head and underparts and dark brown above, with narrower tail bars. Wings broad, with bulging inner wing. Found in tall forest from lowlands to mountains. More heavily built, larger-headed, and larger-billed than Sulawesi Honey-Buzzard, and also has feathered thighs and more evenly spaced tail bars. Immature resembles young Rufous-bellied Eagle, but hawk-eagle lacks dark flanks and mask. Gives a loud “ke-ke-ke-ke…” call.

Distinctive large chunky shorebird of rocky coasts, adjacent sandy beaches and river mouths. The only all-dark oystercatcher in South America, readily identified by wholly dark plumage, long orange-red bill, thick pinkish legs. Found as singles and pairs, less often small flocks (mainly when roosting), and associates readily with Magellanic and especially American Oystercatchers. Loud piping whistles sound similar to American Oystercatcher.

Squat ground-dwelling dove with shimmering green wings. Note chocolate-brown body. Found in forest and forest edge, where it forages on the ground; often flushed at close quarters with a loud wing-clatter. Usually solitary, occasionally in flocks or small groups. Song is an accelerating and rising series of mournful coos.
