Opal-crowned Tanager
Tangara callophrys
Blue-and-black tanager with a bright creamy-white crown and rump patches; otherwise deep blue with black patches from the tail to the head. Compared to the similar Opal-rumped Tanager, this species has a distinctive whitish crown and a blue (not reddish) belly; the latter can be helpful for identification from below as it moves through the canopy with mixed species tanager flocks.

The opal-crowned tanager is found in one contiguous range centered on Amazonian eastern Peru-Ecuador, southeastern Colombia, and the very west of Amazonas state, Brazil; all of Acre state is included in the south with southern Peru, and a border region of extreme northwestern Bolivia.<p>A small disjunct population exists 100 km west in southern Colombia.

Philippine Eagle-Owl
Ketupa philippensis
A large owl of lowland and foothill forest, including secondary habitat and plantations. Warm brown with a heavily marked back, a heavily streaked rufous head and chest, and a more sparsely streaked pale belly. Note the square-shaped head with flattened ear tufts and the yellow eyes. Unmistakable. No other owls of similar size occur in its range. Gives a long, drawn-out, spooky whistled note whose pitch rises slightly, then falls at the end.
Greater Black Coucal
Centropus menbeki
A large coucal of lowland forest. Note all black plumage and pale bill with red eye. Found in thick cover of humid forest where it is very skulking and difficult to see. Similar to Lesser Black Coucal, but Greater Black Coucal is more often found in forest, and is larger with a red eye and paler bill. Heard far more often than seen. Call, a short phrase of deep hooting notes. A rising and falling ”Boop-bip-boo-boo”.
Masked Finch
Poephila personata
A small brownish bird with a bright yellow bill, black face, black flanks, and a distinctive black tail and white rump. Juveniles similar but duller, with dark bill. Long tail but lacks the long streamers of similar Long-tailed Finch, with which Masked is sometimes found. Inhabits grasslands and grassy woodlands across northern Australia.
