White-headed Mousebird
Colius leucocephalus
Like all mousebirds, has a distinctive shape: a chunky body, a long tail, and a shaggy crest. Gray-brown overall with a mostly silvery-white head. Note the pale blue-gray bill with a dark tip. There is a white slash on the back that can be conspicuous in flight. Small groups are found in dry savanna and thorn scrub. The calls include quiet “tet” notes and a rollicking series of squeaky notes. Similar to Speckled Mousebird, but generally found in drier habitat and separated by the white crest, the barred back, and the mostly pale bill.

Gray-throated Sunbird
Anthreptes griseigularis
A small bird of lowland wooded areas with a fairly long, slightly curved, stout bill and yellow underparts. Male has a pale gray throat, a dark reddish cheek and wing patch, a purplish-blue forehead and shoulder, and bottle green on the sides of the throat, the back of the neck, and the crown. Female is fairly drab, with a grayish-brown head and an olive-green back and rump. Male unmistakable. Female similar to several other species, but larger, with a broader bill. Voice not well known, but probably gives a loud “whip!” similar to Brown-throated Sunbird.

Eurasian Griffon
Gyps fulvus
Massive tricolored vulture with whitish head and neck, pale brown body, and contrasting dark flight feathers. Juveniles similar but with a pale brown rather than white neck ruff. Nests in colonies on cliff ledges; often seen in loose flocks soaring over valleys and mountainsides but always in search of updrafts and thermals. Still the commonest vulture over much of its breeding range. Some populations are resident while others are highly migratory.

White-naped Yuhina
Yuhina bakeri
Exquisite yuhina with an orange head and crest with white ears and throat. Nape is not obviously pale, but the white “trim” to the back edge of the crest is noticeable. Forages in broadleaf forests from lower foothills up to montane areas. Social and often seen in large flocks, occasionally with other species. Vocal; gives a range of calls, including fluid-sounding twitters and a nasal bleating.
