Javan Munia
Lonchura leucogastroides
Plain brown munia with a dark face and a white belly. Similar in appearance to White-rumped Munia, with which it overlaps in southern Sumatra; look out for dark, instead of white rump. Inhabits lowland fields, meadows, wetlands, and edge. Occasionally mixes with other species of munias, particularly when food is plentiful; otherwise found in small flocks, in pairs, and singly. Native to Indonesia; introduced to parts of Malaysia and Singapore.

Pelagic Cormorant
Urile pelagicus
A small, slender cormorant with a thin, dark bill. Blackish overall with glossy green head and body and purplish neck. Breeding adults have white patches on sides of rump and limited reddish face. Strictly coastal, where it nests on cliffs. Dives to capture fish. Smaller than Brandt’s or Red-faced Cormorants, with a more slender neck and a thinner dark bill. Fairly extensive range along west coast of North America and in East Asia.

A charismatic inhabitant of northern coniferous forests, especially old growth lichen-rich ones. Dusky-brown and gray body with cinnamon on sides of tail, rump and on patches of the upper wing. Usually quiet. Feeds on seeds, berries, carrion, small insects also takes eggs and young of small birds. Often accepts food handouts from humans and can be quite tame.

Philortyx fasciatus
Very small quail of open brushy woodland and weedy fields in dry regions; endemic to interior southwest Mexico. No other quail in most of its range and habitat. Occurs in coveys for much of year, usually of 5–15 birds, which often feed along quiet roadsides early and late in the day. Flushes explosively with shrieking chatter when disturbed. Sexes look alike, with dark crest spike and boldly barred belly.
