Yellow-billed Nunbird
Monasa flavirostris
Distinctive nunbird with a yellow bill and white shoulder patch. Occupies terra firme forest and forest edge, foraging in the canopy in viny areas and around tree fall gaps. In areas with bamboo, often found in dense bamboo thickets and emergent trees above bamboo. Usually forages in small groups, which give variable warbling songs, usually choppier than those of other nunbirds.

The yellow-billed nunbird is 23 to 25 cm (9.1 to 9.8 in) long and weighs about 39 g (1.4 oz). The adult is mostly sooty black, with the belly tending to very dark gray and the tail being greenish black. The lesser wing coverts are mostly white and show as white spots on the closed wing. The bill is yellow and noticeably shorter than those of the other members of its genus. Its eye is dark and the feet blackish. Immatures are a slightly duller black than adults and the white areas are not as prominent.

The yellow-billed nunbird is found in two areas of the upper Amazon Basin. One extends from southeastern Colombia through eastern Ecuador into northern Peru. The other includes eastern Peru, northern Bolivia, and western Brazil as far east as the upper Purus River. The species inhabits somewhat open landscapes such as transitional forest, secondary forest, the edges of terra firme forest, and regenerating clearings with scattered trees. It occurs from the understory to the subcanopy. In Colombia it is typically found in the Andean foothills at up to 1,400 m (4,600 ft) of elevation. In Ecuador is extends locally as high as 750 m (2,500 ft) but is usually below 400 m (1,300 ft).

The yellow-billed nunbird's feeding behavior and diet have not been extensively studied. It appears to hunt by sallies from a high exposed perch, catching its prey in the air. Its diet is assumed to be mostly insects like those of other nunbirds.<p>Nothing has been documented of the yellow-billed nunbird's breeding phenology.<p>The yellow-billed nunbird's song "consists of full melodious lengthy phrases in choruses, typically including a frequently repeated 'wheekit-wheeyk, wheekit-wheeyk...'."

Linaria johannis
A fine-billed finch with a notched tail. Neatly patterned mostly in gray and white, with black wings and tail and a rufous lower back and thighs. Male has a striking white eyebrow, lower cheek patch, wing notch, and rump. Female is duller, with a less striking facial pattern; juvenile is buffier and streakier. A rare resident in the hilly Daalo and Mash Caleed regions of northern Somalia, where it prefers degraded juniper forest and other woodland and scrub between 1200 and 2400 meters of elevation. Forages on the ground in pairs or small groups, and perches on exposed branches and dead trees. Sings a typical canary-like song with whistles, trills, and buzzes. Calls include a high-pitched “tsee-wit.” Streaky juvenile could be confused with a canary, but white in the wing is distinctive.
Sharpe's Rosefinch
Carpodacus verreauxii
Uncommon medium-sized rosefinch. Male is dark wine pink above and frosty bubblegum pink below, with strikingly pale white eyebrows. Female is gray-brown with streaked underparts and long pale eyebrows; similar to female Chinese White-browed Rosefinch, but note overall buffier coloration, paler streaking, less prominent stripes on the cheeks, and lack of tan-yellow in the eyebrow and near the vent. Sharpe’s breeds in open alpine areas with scrubby cover such as forest edge; moves downslope in the winter. Call is a sharp inflected “pink.”
Green White-eye
Zosterops stuhlmanni
A small, sharp-billed warbler-like bird that is saturated with yellow. Note the yellow underparts, olive-yellow back, and bold white spectacles around the eyes. Found in forest, scrub, gardens, moist woodland, and plantations, usually in hyperactive flocks that can contain many individuals. Often joins mixed flocks with other small birds. Most common call is a high-pitched rising rattle. Song is a quiet, chatty sequence of “chew” notes. Similar to Northern Yellow White-eye, but slightly darker and greener, and usually separated by range and habitat. Also similar to Pale White-eye, but usually separated by range; shows more yellow above the bill, is more richly-colored overall, and prefers moister habitats.
