Rufous-collared Kingfisher
Actenoides concretus
Brilliantly colored but often elusive and difficult to spot in the gloom of the forest. Male is bright blue above and orange below with a green cap. Female replaces male’s blue with cream-spotted green. Broad black, blue, and orange stripes across the face distinguish this species from other kingfishers in range. Whistles pleasantly and persistently, often while perched low above the forest floor in shaded areas.

Rufous-throated Partridge
Arborophila rufogularis
A beautiful little gamebird of foothill and highland forests with extensive ground-level cover, where it moves about in medium-sized convoys through the dense undergrowth. Usually quiet, though sings melodically and loudly at dusk and dawn. Brightly-colored, even for a partridge; both sexes have a bright orange throat, a bluish-gray chest, and orange-and-white spotting on the sides.

Fischer's Greenbul
Phyllastrephus fischeri
Typically dull olive-brown mid-sized greenbul with a long bill, white throat, and reddish tail. Has a whitish eye, and usually shows pale crescents above and below the eye. Found in the thick undergrowth of forest and lush woodland at low elevations. Usually in small groups. The calls are low, gravelly “chrrr” notes, delivered in quick sequence, often by a whole group together. Somewhat similar to Gray-olive Greenbul, but larger, with a darker bill and legs. Similar to brownbuls, but separated by the pale eye and more olive-green coloration on the back.

Blue-headed Wood-Dove
Turtur brehmeri
A shy dove of lowland tropical forest, rarely seen away from intact forest habitats. Distinct from other small African doves in its uniform ruddy plumage and blue-gray head and hindneck. Call is a series of hollow hoots that increase in speed and sometimes waver slightly in pitch. Song is very similar to that of other wood-doves, but other wood-doves prefer more disturbed or more open habitats.
