Dalat Bush Warbler

A large pigeon of montane forest canopy on Mindoro with a metallic green wing and rump, a bronzy back, a buffy throat, and gray underparts, sides of the neck, and crown. Note the red eye-ring and the broad gray central band in the black tail. Somewhat similar to Pink-bellied Imperial-Pigeon, but Mindoro lacks the dark neck and chest. Also similar to Green Imperial-Pigeon, but Mindoro is usually found higher up and has a dark back and a red eye-ring. Song is two deep, booming hoots.

The darkest of the three rosy-finches with a dark chocolate body. Look for pink highlights in the wings and tail; gray wraps around the back of head. Often in mixed flocks in winter with other rosy-finches. Breeds on cliffs at high elevation; difficult to find in the summer. Feeds on seeds and insects. Look for them foraging on alpine snowfields. Visits feeders, primarily in winter.

A distinctive long-tailed paradise-flycatcher with different-looking sexes. Male is glossy blue-black with a pale blue bill and blue eye-rings; female has a dark crown, a gray face, rusty upperparts, and pale underparts. Juvenile is like female; young male slowly turns black. A common resident throughout São Tomé in the understory and at middle levels of most habitats. The only other flycatcher within its range is the dull brown Spotted Flycatcher, a scarce migrant. Calls include a rapid electric clicking and buzzing “dzzrt-dzzrt-dzzrt.” The song is a musical repeated “swee dzee-tee che-ree.”
