Orange-breasted Forest Robin
Stiphrornis erythrothorax
A short-tailed understory robin with a bright red-orange throat that appears to glow in the shadows of lowland rainforests. Variable across its range, but all populations have a bright throat, a dark-gray to brown back, a whitish belly, and a bright white spot in front of the eye. Song is often given as a duet, with the male giving high-pitched whistles “tlee-tee, tlee-tee” and the female giving an accompanying chatter. Calls include short, questioning whistles “tuweu?” as well as soft calls and rattles. Given this species’ habitat, it is most likely to be confused with akalats, but can always be distinguished by the white spot in front of the eye. May occur locally alongside similar Olive-backed Forest Robin, but distinguished by the brownish rather than green back, and the whitish rather than yellowish belly.

The orange-breasted forest robin (Stiphrornis erythrothorax) is a species of bird mainly found throughout the African tropical rainforest. It has a total length of around 12 cm (4+3⁄4 in), has dark upperparts, and a throat and chest that, depending on the subspecies, is yellow-orange or deep orange.

Black-naped Tern
Sterna sumatrana
A medium-sized, long-winged, long-tailed tern of warm tropical seas. Adults appear snow-white except for a thin black nape stripe that extends from the eye (often not very visible from a distance), black outer edge to outermost primary, and thin, long black bill. Hovers frequently while foraging and dips down daintily to pick prey from just below the water's surface. Flies quickly and lightly, often associating with Bridled, Roseate, and Crested terns. Breeds colonially on rocky oceanic islands and headlands. Call a grating “grrri.”
Sooty Barbet
Caloramphus hayii
Earth-toned bird with a large, powerful bill. Dark brown above and white below with a rusty-orange head and chest; the only predominantly brown barbet in its range. Inhabits both primary and secondary forests, occasionally venturing into edge habitats. Unlike other barbets, does not have a loud rollicking song; instead, listen for its high thin “tseep” notes, often given in series.
Humblot's Heron
Ardea humbloti
Large, all-dark heron with a pale bill. Generally rare, and usually seen alone. Found on freshwater lakes and wetlands, along rivers, and on coastal mudflats, mostly at low elevation. Similar in size to Gray Heron, but lacks conspicuous contrast in its plumage. Also similar to Purple Heron, but larger, thicker-billed, and without striping on the neck.
