White-throated Robin

A very small sunbird with a short, slightly curved bill. Males are iridescent leaf green above with a red-and-black chest band, a gray throat, and a buffy gray belly. Females are drab and warbler-like with an inconspicuous pale eyebrow. Found in rainforest, montane forest, and plantations, mostly in the canopy. Males are similar to Collared Sunbird, but can be separated by the gray chin and red chest band. Females can be confused with Green Hylia, which is smaller with much less conspicuous pale markings on the face.

A medium-sized, long-tailed, ground-dwelling bird of lowland and foothill forest. White throat and upper chest, bordered by a thin black line across the chest and a broad black band through the eye. Largely replaces the very similar Blue Jewel-babbler geographically, but Dimorphic female has unique brown plumage with a pale brown stripe behind the eye and male has a gray crown. Overlaps with Chestnut-backed but that species is both blue and brown. Song, a monotonously repeated, medium-pitch note.

Widespread and generally common little owl of tropical lowlands, often seen and heard during the daytime. Favors open tropical woodland and edge, second growth areas with trees (including towns, even cities with wooded parks), tropical pine savannas. Persistent whistles and mobbing bands of small birds often draw attention to pygmy-owls, which can be perched up on open snags or buried deep in cover. Color varies from rusty to grayish overall, but all color types have fine whitish streaks on crown (not spots) and numerous, narrow dark tail bars.
