Eared Pygmy-Tyrant
Myiornis auricularis
Miniscule greenish-yellow flycatcher with a short tail that is easily overlooked in the lower levels of humid forests and second growth. Note the chestnut eye patch fringed by a black crescent (ear patch), its pale streaky gray neck, and yellow-olive back. The wings make a buzzing noise in flight. Listen for its repetitive “prrii-priii-prii” song and its “pic-pic-pic” call.

Males are dark gray with a bluish tint to the back and upperparts, while females are bluish-gray above and brownish-orange below. Inhabits the lower levels of forests, where it is more often heard than seen; voice is a fast series of notes increasing in speed before finishing with a final higher note.

Pinto's Spinetail
Synallaxis infuscata
Spinetail with a largely dark body contrasting with a rich rusty crown, wings, and tail. Note the streaked whitish throat. In its tiny range, found in the understory at the edge of remnant humid forest fragments and in adjacent second-growth vegetation. The call is a repetition of “teh-teh-teh” notes.

Grayish Baywing
Agelaioides badius
A medium-sized blackbird with a short bill. Both sexes are similar; mostly olive-brown with rusty wings. Inhabits open woodlands, savanna, and scrubby areas, but also found in farmlands, plantations, and urban parks where is often seen in small groups. Uncommon in the Atlantic Forest region. The song includes melodical whistles with short buzzy notes; song varies among individuals.
