Fiji Goshawk
Tachyspiza rufitorques
A small goshawk with pale grayish-blue wings and head and a peachy reddish collar, chest, and belly. Note the piercing orange eye and orange legs. Adaptable, occurring in most habitats with a forest component up to 1200 meters of elevation. No similar species occur in its range. Vocal, often giving a loud and piercing “ki…ki…ki.”

Montserrat Oriole
Icterus oberi
A slim species of mountain forests where it feeds on insects at middle elevation. Males have a black head, chest, and back that contrast with a yellow belly and rump. Females are dull yellow-green above and dingy yellow below. Montserrat Orioles are larger than warblers, vireos, and tanagers and they have a long, relatively thick-based and sharply tipped bill. No similar species occur within its range. Vocalizations include loud whistles and harsh chrrrr-like calls.

Tawny-breasted Parrotfinch
Erythrura hyperythra
Despite its exquisite coloration, this tiny finch is reclusive, generally uncommon, and seldom observed. Note emerald-green back and orange extending from the face down to the upper belly. Sky-blue forehead patch is much larger and brighter in males than females. Found in highland forests and forest edge; often associated with bamboo thickets.
