Ringed Antpipit
Corythopis torquatus
Small ground-dwelling flycatcher of lowland rainforest. Very unusual appearance for a flycatcher, looking more like a tiny thrush or an antbird as it struts around the ground with its body held upright. Likes to walk on logs and tree roots in mature rainforest, making short flights up to understory vegetation to catch insects. Dull brown above and white below with broad black breast streaks. Listen for its short song with a distinctive “up-down” pattern, a whistled “wheeu, pew.”

The range of the ringed antpipit is the entire Amazon Basin, the Guianan region, Marajó Island, and the southeast Orinoco River Basin region in eastern Venezuela; also the downstream half of the neighboring Amazon Basin river system in the southeast, the Araguaia-Tocantins River, with the range ending easterly on the Atlantic coast of Brazil's Maranhão state.<p>In the southern Amazon Basin approaching the northwestern Cerrado it approaches the range of its sister Corythopis species, southern antpipit, but the ranges do not intersect.

Black-belted Flowerpecker
Dicaeum haematostictum
A small bird of forest and fairly open woodland from the lowlands to lower elevations in the mountains. Black above, glossed blue, with white underparts marked by a red patch from the chest to the belly, bordered with black around the top. Note the fairly long slender bill. Similar to Fire-breasted Flowerpecker, but has black above the red patch rather than below. Voice includes high-pitched piping as well as “chik!” notes more typical of a flowerpecker.
Least Seedsnipe
Thinocorus rumicivorus
Very small but stocky, quail-like bird of Patagonian steppe, sandy and stony plains in the Andes, coastal dunes, and deserts. Found in pairs or small groups; locally large flocks in nonbreeding season. Male has hooting song given from low mounds or fence posts, and sometimes during display flight. Flight is strong and fast; flushes with loud bleating chatters. Similar Gray-breasted Seedsnipe is larger, favors rockier Andean habitats, and has plain gray breast without diagnostic black Y pattern present on male Least Seedsnipes.
Coquerel's Coua
Coua coquereli
Long-tailed, long-legged understory bird. Rufous belly and all-blue bare facial skin. Found in dry deciduous forest of western and northern Madagascar. Rather shy, and quickly walks away from any disturbance. Most common vocalization is a loud “kwaaa” followed by 3–4 lower “kwe” notes. Very similar to Giant Coua, but much smaller, and without pink facial skin. Similar to Red-capped Coua, but has a shorter tail and legs and a rufous belly.
