Scaly Laughingthrush
Trochalopteron subunicolor
Dark golden-brown laughingthrush with extensive black-edged scaling all over its body. Wings are paler, brighter yellow, with slight blue-gray highlights toward the tip. Somewhat similar to Blue-winged Laughingthrush, but that species is browner, with a much broader blue wing panel and a narrow black eyebrow. Scaly Laughingthrush forages on the ground and in undergrowth, often in pairs.

Bismarck Woodswallow
Artamus insignis
A thick-bodied, highly aerobatic bird, white-bodied above and below with black wings, a black hood, and an obvious pale eye-ring. Bill pale bluish with a limited dark tip. No similar species occur within its range. Found in open or forest-edge habitats. Common call is an upslurred metallic “zwink zwink,” but not particularly vocal.

Golden-fronted Leafbird
Chloropsis aurifrons
Beautifully-colored bulbul-sized bird which manages to vanish into the green foliage. Orange forehead is diagnostic. Unlike several other leafbird species, sexes are similar. Calls include a fluid-sounding double note and various cheeps and rasping notes.

Usually seen at forest edge, clearings, and second growth. Visits feeders.
