Golden-fronted Leafbird
Chloropsis aurifrons
Beautifully-colored bulbul-sized bird which manages to vanish into the green foliage. Orange forehead is diagnostic. Unlike several other leafbird species, sexes are similar. Inhabits lowland and foothill forested areas, where it forages predominantly in the canopy. Often gathers at fruiting or flowering trees. Exuberant warbling song has a distinctly scratchy quality. Calls include a fluid-sounding double note and various cheeps and rasping notes.

The adult is green-bodied with a black face and throat bordered with yellow. It has dark brown irises and blackish feet and bill. It has a yellowish orange forehead and blue moustachial line (but lacks the blue flight feathers and tail sides of blue-winged leafbird). Young birds have a plain green head and lack the black on their face and throat. The black of the face and throat appears slightly duller in females.<p>The southern Indian race, C. a. frontalis, has a narrower yellow border to black face. The throat is black and it has a blue sub-moustachial stripe and duller orange forehead. Towards the extreme south of India and Sri Lanka the race insularis occurs which is slightly smaller than frontalis.<p>Its song consists of rising and falling liquid chirps in bulbul-like tones and its call may include harsh whispers. They are also known to mimic the calls of other bird species and have loud calls.

Long-billed Woodcreeper
Nasica longirostris
This large and unmistakable woodcreeper is widespread across much of Amazonia. It has a long pinkish bill, white throat, and distinct white streaking on the neck and breast. Typically found singly or in pairs in the mid-levels and canopy of lowland forest and edges, often near water. Frequently detected by voice; listen for its series of long, plain whistles, often at dawn or dusk.
Beautiful Treerunner
Margarornis bellulus
Rare but unique within a tiny range near the border of Panama and Colombia. Small brown bird that hitches along mossy limbs in humid cloud forest. Look for a buffy eyebrow, a white throat, and pale spotting on the underparts. Sexes alike. Similar to Pearled Treerunner but no range overlap; also note duller brown (not rufous) upperparts. Typically seen singly or in pairs, often following a mixed-species flock.
Spix's Warbling-Antbird
Hypocnemis striata
Relatively small antbird with heavily streaked upperparts, spotted chest, and rusty lower back and belly. Inhabits the understory of humid forest, seasonally flooded forest, and tall second growth. Forages in dense vine tangles, and sometimes accompanies mixed-species flocks or attends army-ant swarms. The song is a descending series of 9-10 clear notes ending abruptly. Similar to Rondonia Warbling-Antbird, but Spix's Warbling-Antbird has a black (not gray) mantle and a more heavily streaked breast, while the back of females is less streaked and duller brown.
