Chami Antpitta
Grallaria alvarezi
Medium-sized antpitta restricted to high elevation cloud forest in the western Andes of Colombia. It is dark chestnut brown all over, with long legs and a short tail. Typically stays on the ground in the dark forest understory where it is hard to see, but sometimes comes up a bit higher, especially when singing. Gives a curt “pit-brrr” as well as a descending trill lasting about three seconds. This is one of several new antpitta species which were previously considered to be forms of what used to be called Rufous Antpitta.

The Chamí antpitta was found to be a unique species in the rufous antpitta complex differentiated by plumage color, vocalizations and genetic differences.<p>The common name Chamí is named for the Embera Chamí indigenous community who inhabit the western slopes of Colombian Andes. Nymphargus chami, an endemic Colombian frog, is also named for the Chamí. The specific name alvarezi is named in honor of the Colombian ornithologist Mauricio Álvarez Rebolledo.

The Chamí antpitta is endemic to the western Colombian Andes from Antioquia in the north to Cauca in the south and west of the Cauca river. They are found at elevations of 2,350-3,650 m. They inhabit humid montane forests and forest edges.<p>The Cauca river separates the Chamí antpitta from the closely related Equatorial antpitta.

Anhima cornuta
Enormous, ungainly ogre of a bird. Found around freshwater marshes and rivers in Amazonian lowlands. Dark gray and black overall with a scaly white neck and white belly. Named for the characteristic unicorn-like appendage on top of its head. Walks along river banks and perches in waterside vegetation, sometimes quite high. Honking song can be heard at great distances—a deep, reedy “ha-moo-co” often uttered in duet.

Plump tanager of arid lowlands in central Argentina, chiefly in northern Patagonian scrub. Similar to larger Mourning Sierra-Finch, but Carbonated has a less deeply curved top of bill, extensive black on underparts, and, in males, a pure yellow bill.

Beautiful small babbler with a black head, bright silver ear, orange underparts, and a bright red wing patch. Travels in noisy flocks through hill and submontane forest, sometimes in single-species groups and occasionally with other species. Unfortunately a common target of the cage bird trade, and escapees are often seen outside of their native range; in some areas, such as Hong Kong, they have even established self-sustaining populations. Warbled song often given as birds move around in flocks.
