Fawn-breasted Whistler

Medium-sized parakeet, bright lime green above with whitish face and chest, pinkish bill, and blue wingtips. Native to South America, where it is found in various open habitats, especially rural agricultural areas and towns. In introduced range, can be found locally in large cities. Builds enormous stick nests, often on large structures like cell phone towers and power poles; "Cliff Parakeet" of arid southcentral Bolivia manages to build, quite impressively, on sheer cliffs. Listen for its harsh, screeching voice.

Chunky, stout-billed bird of humid evergreen forest and edge in tropical lowlands. Usually found in pairs, often skulking at low to middle levels in lush vegetation. In typical views, looks simply dark. Note the large size relative to buntings, very stout bill, and broad tail, which can be twitched side to side. Male is deep blue-black overall. Female is rich dark brown overall. Sharp squeaky call often doubled and rather distinctive.

Unusual bushshrike-like bird with a heavy hooked bill. The underparts are pale, and the upperparts are olive-green with bold white spotting. The yellow corners of the tail can be conspicuous in flight. Found in forest, thickets, and dense woodland. Skulking and secretive, usually remaining inside of tangles in the understory and midstory. Very vocal, and most often detected by voice: a quick jumble of wooden notes. Range does not overlap with other nicators.
