Marquesan Ground Dove
Pampusana rubescens
A rotund, short-legged ground-dwelling dove that usually runs rather than flies when startled. Slate-gray belly contrasts with paler gray chest and head, and with purplish shoulders and back. No similar species occur in its range. Apparently rarely vocal, but has been heard giving a snarling sound.

White-faced Ibis
Plegadis chihi
Long decurved bill. Dark overall with iridescent green and reddish tones on adults. Broad white border to reddish face and red eyes. Found mainly in shallow wetlands of the western U.S. Best distinguished from Glossy Ibis by range and facial pattern. Also note more subtle features: reddish legs and paler bronzy tones to wings.

Gray-headed Tanager
Eucometis penicillata
Small, uncommon tanager of humid tropical lowland forest, sometimes found at army ant swarms. Typically inhabits low to mid-levels of shady understory, as singles or pairs. Sexes look alike, with bushy gray head cleanly cut off from the rich yellow underparts and olive-green upperparts. Song is a rich squeaky warble, at times prolonged.

Crested Tit-Warbler
Leptopoecile elegans
Small sublime bird of scrubby alpine and subalpine forests. Male has iridescent blue-green wings, a long silver cap, and rusty cheeks and neck. Female is paler, with a silvery-gray head and a thin black eyebrow. Both sexes have rosy pink flanks. Forages actively, often with other species, particularly with small tits. Gives faint high thin notes.
