Crested Tit-Warbler

Large and brownish francolin with yellow-orange legs, bill, and bare skin around the eyes. Also note the heavily striped and spotted neck and underparts and the strong facial pattern. Found in savanna and grassland habitats at middle elevations. Usually in pairs or small groups. The common vocalization is a series of several rough “kreek” calls. Similar in size, shape, and overall coloration to Double-spurred and Clapperton’s Francolins, but separated by the yellow-orange bare parts. 

Small, gorgeous flycatcher, endemic to the Galapagos Islands, where now rare and local. Unmistakable in range. Adult males have brilliant red underparts and crown with dark brown upperparts and mask behind eye. Females are brown above with a whitish throat and lemon-yellow underparts. Found in open forest and forest edge. Feeds on insects. Once considered conspecific with Vermilion Flycatcher.

A beautiful small myzomela in which males are vivid-red with a slightly darker patch in front of the eyes. Female also has distinctive plumage: mostly olive with a reddish face, a red rump, and a reddish tail. Found in primary rainforest and forest edge as well as secondary growth, mainly in hill forest above 600 meters of elevation but sometimes below. Unique coloration separates it from similar species, the male being entirely red, and the female having the diagnostic reddish rump and tail. Common call is a repeated high-pitched, insect-like “tseet.”
