Philippine Bush Warbler
Horornis seebohmi
A small drab bird of dense undergrowth within open montane forest in northern Luzon. Warm brown on the upperparts and crown with a dark eye-stripe and pale brown underparts blending to a pale gray chest and whitish throat. Similar to Long-tailed Bush-Warbler, but tail shorter and underparts grayish rather than deep brown. Also similar to Benguet Bush-Warbler, but has a a more distinct pale eyebrow. Song consists of a drawn-out low whistle followed by an explosive whistled phrase. Call is a sharp “tsik!”

It is found in tropical montane pine forests above 800 meters in elevation. It is typically found in the understory and low thickets in the forest strata. Little else is known about this bird.<p>IUCN has assessed this bird as least-concern with the population believed to be stable but more surveys are needed to determine the actual population health and distribution of the species.

Saltator albicollis
A small to medium-sized, olive-colored inhabitant of thickets, scrub, and other low dense habitats. A distinctive species with a stout black-and-yellow bill, a pale throat, and a pale eyebrow. No similar species occur within its range. Its song is a series of loud musical notes that rise and fall. Call notes include faint “tsi” and sharp “chink.”

Large black bird found inside forest, usually at middle levels. Reminiscent of a crow with a funky hairdo; unlike any other species in its range. Male’s bare red throat sac is usually visible, even when not inflated. Female lacks the throat sac and the puffy umbrella-like crest, but she is still distinctively large and all-black. Rare and local.
Blackthroat
Calliope obscura
A somberly-colored robin which breeds in dense bamboo thickets. Male is slate-gray above (only a hint of blue may be detected in good lighting) with a white belly and black bib. Female is brown with a paler belly and a rusty-brown tail. Forages on the ground and in low bushes like most other small robins. Shy, usually keeping close to cover. Song is a series of distinct, separated phrases consisting of bright fluid warbling, high buzzy trills, and buzzy warbling.
