Spangled Coquette
Lophornis stictolophus
Tiny, short-tailed hummingbird with disjunct range from Venezuela to southeast Ecuador. Spectacular male is mostly green with a bushy orange crest with black spots, a dark throat, a red bill, and a white band across rump. Female is duller overall with a rusty forehead and a whitish throat. Unlikely to be confused within its range, but compare with Rufous-crested Coquette (male lacks black spotting in crest and female has a brighter rusty throat). Generally rare in lowlands and foothills up to around 1,200 m. Most likely to be seen at purple Verbena flowers or in the canopy of a flowering Inga tree.

行为
The spangled coquette is sedentary.
The spangled coquette feeds on the nectar of a variety of flowering plants, typically at tree-top level, though details of its diet are lacking. It "steals" nectar from the territories of larger hummingbirds. It catches arthropods by hawking from a perch.
Nothing is known about the spangled coquette's breeding phenology.
The spangled coquette is mostly silent. It gives "a high, sharp 'tsip'" while feeding. Its wings make "a low bee-like humming" when hovering.

Naked-faced Barbet
Gymnobucco calvus
A dark, chunky barbet with a bald face and crown and a pale yellow bill. Overall uniform gray-brown in color with blue-gray or dark gray facial skin. Central Angolan birds have pale throats. Often encountered singly or in small groups, though large congregations can be found, especially around colonial nesting trees. Can be found nesting with other related species, from which Naked-faced Barbet differs in having no feather tufts above the bill. Voice is a sharp “tew” call, sometimes accompanied by a rattle and other harsh notes.

Painted Buttonquail
Turnix varius
Intricately plumaged buttonquail with dark red eye, found in dry woodlands where it feeds by making circular scrapes among deep leaf litter. Pale spots and streaks on chest, belly, wings, and flanks. In flight, note contrast between more reddish back and grayish-toned rump. Pale eyebrow, less well defined than Stubble Quail. Call is a relentless soft repeated “boom” and also makes a fast sputtering "bub-bub-bub-bub" call.

White-winged Woodpecker
Dendrocopos leucopterus
Large black-and-white woodpecker; very similar to Great Spotted Woodpecker, but with a single large and rather formless white patch dominating the entire wing instead of scattered white dots and bars. Found in waterside clusters of forest, preferring poplar stands, in the largely dry and treeless expanses of Central Asia.
