Moluccan Flycatcher
Myiagra galeata
Male is a black-and-white songbird with a uniform blackish-blue upperside and gleaming white underparts. Female and juvenile are gray above with a peach wash on throat and breast. Usually found in pairs in lowlands and foothills, inhabiting a variety of habitats with trees, like mangroves, plantations, and forest edge, typically in the understory and subcanopy. Male Moluccan Flycatcher distinguished from female Shining Flycatcher by uniformly dark back. White throat distinguishes male from Black-chinned and Black-tipped Monarchs. Gives a strident, ringing, uniformly-pitched “wit-wit-wit-wit-wit” song as well as rasping, metallic “wheer” calls.

Alternate names for the Moluccan flycatcher include helmet flycatcher, helmeted broadbill, helmeted flycatcher, Moluccan Myiagra, Moluccan Myiagra flycatcher and slaty monarch. The latter name should not be confused with the species of the same name, Mayrornis lessoni.<p>There are three subspecies recognized:

Olive-bellied Sunbird
Cinnyris chloropygius
Small sunbird in which males are colorful, green and red, and females drab brownish. Males have yellow shoulder tufts that are usually hidden. Found in forest clearings, along forest edge, and in woodland, moist savanna, gardens, and brush. Often feeds on low flowers. The song is a quick, high-pitched jumble. Similar to Tiny Sunbird, but larger, with a shorter and more curved bill, and males are less bluish above. Male very similar to male double-collared sunbirds, but lacks blue or purple band above the red on the breast.

A dapper and long-tailed inhabitant of Java’s foothill and montane forests. Warm brown overall, with a silvery nape, dark face, and jet-black wings marked with a small white patch. Extremely long, round-tipped tail is silver-gray above with a dark tip, and predominantly dark below with a pale band near the tip. Forages at all levels of the forest, often hopping amongst leaf clusters and moving between trees in fast, fluttering flight. Calls include coarse grating squawks, a fluid “tlee’lee”, and a series of short hoarse “whurr!” notes.
Slender Sheartail
Doricha enicura
Small hummingbird of scrubby forests and overgrown clearings in the mountains of Chiapas and south to southern Honduras. Feeds quietly at all levels and is easily overlooked. Note the long arched bill; distinct from other small hummingbirds in its range. Spectacular male has very long blackish tail (forked, but usually held closed in a point) and green-and-purple throat (usually looks dark). Female is buffy below.
