Araripe Manakin
Chiroxiphia bokermanni
Strikingly beautiful white manakin with a red crown and black tail and flight feathers. Females are olive-green, paler below; note the short crest above the bill. Has a tiny geographic range on the borders of the Araripe Plateau, where it is found in woodland near water. Has a pleasant call “guru-uí”, similar to Helmeted Manakin calls.
识别特征
As typical of most manakins, males and females have a strong sexual dimorphism in the colours of the plumage. As in the helmeted manakin, it is a relatively large and long-tailed manakin, with a total length of c. 14.5 centimetres (5.7 in). The strikingly patterned males have predominantly white plumage. With the exception of the white little wings coverts, the wings are black as the tail. From the frontal tuft, over the crown, down to the middle back runs a carmine red patch. The iris is red. The females are mainly olive green and have pale green upperparts. They have a reduced olive green frontal tuft.[citation needed]

分布与栖息地
This species is endemic to the Chapada do Araripe (Araripe uplands) in the Brazilian state of Ceará in the north eastern region of the country. It is only fifty kilometres long and one kilometre wide and the typical habitat apparently is a consequence of the soils formed from the Santana Formation limestone. The pure breeding range has a size of only 1 km2 (0.39 sq mi) and lies in a theme park. It is likely to be more widespread than presently known, although surveys in nearby Balneario das Caldas failed to locate any individuals.[citation needed]

Southern Black-Tit
Melaniparus niger
A large, active, noisy black tit with white shoulders, white edgings to the wing feathers, and a barred gray-and-white undertail. Pairs and small groups form the core of mixed-species feeding flocks in broadleaf woodland and thorn scrub. The species is often detected by its noisy buzzing and chirping vocalizations, including a sweet-and-scratchy “diddy-dzee-dzee-dzee-dzee-dzee.” The very similar Carp’s Tit is black under the tail; ranges only narrowly overlap.

Yellow Grosbeak
Pheucticus chrysopeplus
Big, bright grosbeak of foothills and highlands; also lowlands locally in west Mexico. Found in tropical forest and edges, brushy woodlands, and shade-coffee plantations. Usually seen singly, occasionally in small groups, feeding quietly at all levels in fruiting trees. Note the very stout bill and white wing markings. Male is unmistakable: brilliant yellow overall in most of Mexico, but rich golden yellow in Chiapas and Guatemala. Female similar to female Flame-colored Tanager but bigger, with massive bill and white (not yellow) vent.

White-browed Tapaculo
Scytalopus superciliaris
Small, mouse-like bird of the high Andes in NW Argentina. Found in lower, more humid forest than similar Zimmer’s Tapaculo. Prefers humid montane forest hillsides and ravines, especially with dense understory. Most often found by voice: a burry, emphatic, two part ”skyew-yew”.
