Masked Trogon

A plain, miniscule cisticola of dry habitats. The cap and back of the neck are bright rufous, the back and tail are gray-brown, and the underparts are pale buff. The back can appear unstreaked or blurrily streaked. Found in dry thorn savanna and woodland. Within its range and habitat, easily identified by its tiny size and the bright rufous on the head. The song may recall a prinia’s, consisting of a rapid series of high-pitched “chi-du-lee” phrases. 

A small, dainty bee-eater of open woodlands, semideserts, farmland, and around sparse human habitation. Mainly green with a yellowish-green throat, slender black face mask, throat band and long central tail streamers. Juveniles are duller than adults and lack the long tail feathers. In flight, note the rusty underwing with a black trailing edge. Flies gracefully as it catches insects and other prey. Some populations show seasonal movements. Calls are a series of gentle liquid trills or more staccato notes.

Brownish, medium-sized hornbill. Male is dusty brown above and rusty-colored below, with a pale bill and blue-gray skin around the eye. Female is similarly patterned, but is duller overall, with a dark bill. Very similar to closely related Brown Hornbill, with which it overlaps in the far northern edge of its range; look for a darker brown throat in the male and a black (instead of white) bill in the female. Gives loud whistled screams.
