Zimmer's Antbird
Sciaphylax castanea
Scarce antbird found in rainforest understory in lowland and foothills of eastern Ecuador, northeastern Peru, and southern Colombia. Male is brown with a gray head, black breast, whitish belly, chestnut tail, and buffy wingbars; white patch on the back is usually concealed. Female’s breast is chestnut instead of black. Very similar to Chestnut-tailed Antbird, but note range and voice. Song is an accelerating, rising series of whistles; it sometimes falls in pitch near the end.
识别特征
Sciaphylax castanea is 11–12 cm in length and weighs 16–17 grams. It is similar to its congener Sciaphylax hemimelaena, but differentiated by their vocalisations. The tail is short. The male has a dark gray head and neck and reddish-brown upper parts, the wing coverts are blackish with white or yellowish-brown tips, the tail is rufous-brown; the throat and breast are black with gray and brown on the sides and flanks, the midribs are white. The female is similar to the male, but paler; the throat and breast are chestnut to rufous orange, the belly is white tinged with yellowish brown.

Rufous Limestone Babbler
Gypsophila calcicola
A large and chunky babbler found very locally in limestone hills covered with dry forest. Rufous-brown overall with a black-streaked throat and a white-streaked back. Forages close to the ground, often in and around rocky cracks and crevices. Song is a loud, ringing, rather hoarse-sounding sequence of whistled notes including some repeated phrases, sometimes given as a duet by a pair. Also gives harsh “grrr” notes. Similar to Streaked Wren-Babbler, but larger and longer-tailed, with bolder striping on the throat and no white spots on the shoulder.
Nightingale Wren
Microcerculus philomela
Small, dark brown wren of humid evergreen forest in tropical lowlands and foothills; most often detected by its distinctive song. Usually stays low, on or near the forest floor in shady understory, and is difficult to see well. Note the small size, long bill, overall plain plumage, and stubby tail.
Band-tailed Nighthawk
Nyctiprogne leucopyga
Distinctive, locally common nighthawk of lowland rivers. Appears small and dark; in dim light, best distinguished from other nighthawks by swallowlike profile and longish tail. Also note the white band across tail and lack of white in wings. Usually found near water in forest and savanna regions, occasionally in large groups; does not tend to fly high. Dark plumage recalls Blackish Nightjar, but shape and behavior are very different.
