Band-tailed Nighthawk
Nyctiprogne leucopyga
Distinctive, locally common nighthawk of lowland rivers. Appears small and dark; in dim light, best distinguished from other nighthawks by swallowlike profile and longish tail. Also note the white band across tail and lack of white in wings. Usually found near water in forest and savanna regions, occasionally in large groups; does not tend to fly high. Dark plumage recalls Blackish Nightjar, but shape and behavior are very different.

Lark-like Brushrunner
Coryphistera alaudina
Distinctive ovenbird with a bold face pattern and a spiky crest. Heavily streaked with a broken white eye-ring. Forages on the ground in light woodland and scrub with scattered trees. Often encountered in family groups, and in the non-breeding season may associate with mixed-species flocks. The song is a trembling trill.
Red-collared Mountain-Babbler
Turdoides rufocinctus
Unusual babbler with a black cap and a rufous collar and rump. Also note the pale bill and eye. Found very locally in the canopy and mid-story of montane forest along the Albertine Rift. Usually in small and vocal groups, which sometimes join mixed-species feeding flocks. The call is a raspy chattering. Very similar to Chapin’s Babbler, but not known to overlap in range, and easily separated by its black cap.
Western Yellow Robin
Eopsaltria griseogularis
Very small songbird found in forests of southwestern Australia as well as the Eyrean Peninsula of South Australia. Gray above, bright yellow below, with gray upper breast and off-white throat. This species perches on low branches and on the side of tree trunks before flying down to the ground to capture prey. Yellow rump and pale stripe in wing obvious mostly in flight. Differs from Eastern Yellow Robin by its gray breast (also note range). Voice is a slow repetitive "chew-chew-chew" whistle; also gives a rough, chattering, scolding call.
