Black-chinned Mountain Tanager

A medium-sized dark sunbird with a graduated, white-tipped tail. Male has a blue-purple iridescent throat and upper tail; female and juvenile are dull yellow underneath. A common endemic resident in almost all habitats across Príncipe, where pairs and small groups frequently join mixed-species flocks. Its distinctive rapid song and upslurred “tsoooeeet” call are characteristic sounds of the island. Dull Olive Sunbird has a longer and more recurved bill than Principe Sunbird. 

A distinctive large pigeon with a pale pink head and neck, a deep cinnamon belly, dark greenish upperparts and tail, and a broad pale band at the tail tip. Singles to small groups inhabit forest and forest edge, including degraded forest and plantations. Perches high, but rarely in the open. Overlaps with Spectacled Imperial-Pigeon, but differs in its pink head, its lack of a bold eye-ring, its cinnamon belly, and its pale tail band. Gives a signature deep two-note growl, “ku-woooo,” with a curt, rising first note and a longer second note.

Unusual little flycatcher with olive upperparts, yellow underparts, and a black-banded rufous tail. Found very locally in riverine and coastal forest and thickets. Restless bird that is constantly in motion, and is fond of spreading and flicking its tail. The vocalizations are a rapid series of “chit” calls and a short, melodious, warbling song.
