Cinnamon-bellied Imperial-Pigeon
Ducula basilica
A distinctive large pigeon with a pale pink head and neck, a deep cinnamon belly, dark greenish upperparts and tail, and a broad pale band at the tail tip. Singles to small groups inhabit forest and forest edge, including degraded forest and plantations. Perches high, but rarely in the open. Overlaps with Spectacled Imperial-Pigeon, but differs in its pink head, its lack of a bold eye-ring, its cinnamon belly, and its pale tail band. Gives a signature deep two-note growl, “ku-woooo,” with a curt, rising first note and a longer second note.

Tuamotu Reed Warbler
Acrocephalus atyphus
A medium-sized, slender reed warbler with a strong eyebrow and a dark eye-stripe. Rufous morph is rusty brown above and pale below with a cinnamon wash. Gray morph is cold pale gray above and gray-buff below. Found in woodland and open brush, sometimes in gardens and plantations. Call is a low, harsh “chru,” often followed by a short whistled song.

Black-backed Fruit-Dove
Ptilinopus cinctus
A large, striking fruit-dove with blackish upperparts and pale underparts crossed by a diagnostic black breast band. Pale coloration of underparts varies through range, but breast band is always distinct. Juveniles have a speckled head and yellow fringes to upperparts feathers. Found in forests and wooded areas from lowlands to mountains; generally more abundant in the hills. Usually found singly or in pairs within the upper levels of the trees. Song is a short, deep “woo-oo,” rising at the start, falling at the end.

Crested Finchbill
Spizixos canifrons
Tea-green bulbul with a dark gray head and a spiffy erect crest. Black-crested Bulbul is structurally somewhat similar but is darker green with an all-black head and pale eyes. Crested Finchbill inhabits middle to upper-elevation forests and edges, where it often gathers in very large flocks. Bold and approachable; can often be found in field edges, parks, and gardens. Gives distinctively bubbly ascending trills, often in distinct phrases.
