White-vented Whistler
Pachycephala homeyeri
Warm brown above and white below with a faint cinnamon wash near the “shoulders” that give it a “vested” appearance. Can be similar to Negros Jungle-Flycatcher, which is generally found at higher altitudes. Look for a combination of longer, smaller-headed profile, and incomplete, diffuse breast band in present species. Found from the central Philippines south to islands off Borneo’s northeastern coast, where it inhabits lowland to submontane forests. Frequently moves with mixed flocks, often in lower levels of forest, but can be found up into the canopy. Gives high, thin, clean-sounding whistles as well as various warbled and whistled notes.

The alternate name 'white-bellied whistler' should not be confused with the species of the same name, Pachycephala leucogastra. Formerly, some authorities considered the white-vented whistler to be a subspecies of the mangrove whistler.<p>Three subspecies are recognized:

Crow-billed Drongo
Dicrurus annectens
Large dark drongo of open forested environments. Glossy black with a characteristically forked tail. Immature speckled with grayish-white on lower breast and belly. Thick dark bill gives a generally heavier-headed appearance than other similar dark drongos such as Black Drongo, with which it shares parts of its range; also prefers more forested environments than the latter. Aggressive and territorial, particularly during the breeding season, frequently mobbing raptors and corvids with great vigor. Like other drongos, boasts a varied repertoire; songs include a ringing “tsee-goo-gohgee!” Calls include bell-like gurgling notes, harsh chattering, and piercing whistles.
Red-backed Buttonquail
Turnix maculosus
Tiny secretive button-quail. Typically inhabits dense wet-grassland habitats. This species is very secretive, and most commonly observed exploding from cover and flying rapidly away - look for pale patches on the wings contrasting with a darker back and wing tips. Has a reddish-brown collar, yellow bill and clear black spots extending down from below the eye to the wing. Call is a soft repeated ‘oom-oom-oom-oom’ with the end of each note ascending in pitch.
Spotted Tanager
Ixothraupis punctata
Small, strongly-marked tanager. It inhabits Andean cloud forest in the western part of its range, and lowland and foothill forest elsewhere. Plumage is greenish overall, paler on head and underparts, and profusely marked with black spots and chevrons. Spots on female and immature are duller. Separated from other similar tanagers by lack of yellow on underparts, and by pale grayish face and throat. Generally stays high in the trees, where it is a common member of mixed-species flocks.
