Crimson Sunbird

Medium-sized, mostly green parakeet with a black hood, red thighs, and blue in the wings and tail. Native to central South America, where it is found in open woodlands and grasslands with scattered trees. Introduced populations in the Americas and Europe often found around neighborhood parks and gardens. Call is a typical parrot shriek and is rather high-pitched.

A medium-sized blue-and-white kingfisher with a pale blue crown, a black eye mask, and a mostly white body with blue wings and tail. Female has blue rump, while male’s is white. Bill is entirely black. Prefers lowland primary forest up to 1000 meters of elevation, but also recorded in degraded forest. Forest Kingfisher is slightly larger with a green back and rump and a more prominent white spot in front of the eye. Sacred Kingfisher and local race of Pacific Kingfisher are more buff in pale areas and overall more greenish-blue than pure blue. Beach Kingfisher is much larger and overall paler. New Britain Kingfisher’s call is a rapidly descending “kee-ku-ko-ko” or a light cackling trill.

Medium-sized slender bird, pale gray above, white below, with a small dark bridge between the bill and eye (lores) and faint partial white eyering. Immature lacks distinct mask of Black-faced Cuckooshrike. Dark morph shows large but variable black bib and breast, mottled or barred at the edges. Inhabits eucalypt forest and other woodlands in Australia, Indonesia, New Guinea, and the Solomon Islands. Call a high-pitched, two-note squeak.
