Slaty-backed Flycatcher
Ficedula erithacus
Slender flycatcher of hilly and montane forests. Male is slate blue-gray above and orange below; it is duller and darker than male blue flycatchers and lacks the wingbars of the stockier male Mugimaki Flycatcher. Female is dull brown with a faint tan wash to the upper breast and rufous tones on the tail; like the male, lacks wingbars. As with many other forest flycatchers, Slaty-backed usually sallies out to forage in clearings, edges, and near trails, typically at middle levels of the forest. Listen for its beautiful song, an undulating series of short high-pitched whistles. Calls include a high thin “tsii” and a rattling “drrrrt” reminiscent of a frog.

The slaty-backed flycatcher (Ficedula erithacus) is a species of bird in the family Muscicapidae. It is native to the eastern Himalayas, central China, Yunnan; it winters to northern Indochina. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests and subtropical or tropical moist montane forests. It is omnivorous.

Black-eared Miner
Manorina melanotis
Rare, medium-sized honeyeater found only in a few areas with dense intact mallee woodland (such as Gluepot Reserve). Grayish brown above, paler gray below, with pale gray crown, yellow bill, yellow eye patch, and a dark cheek patch. Hybridizes with Yellow-throated Miner, which makes identification difficult, as hybrids show a mix of the features of both species. In Black-eared, the moustache is darker than the throat (moustache is paler in Yellow-throated) and the cheek patch entirely black (patch has silver flecks in Yellow-throated). In flight, note the rump is the same color as the back and tail (rump is paler in Yellow-throated). Aggressive and territorial; lives in colonies and vigorously defends the territory area against pretty much anything that moves.
Gilbert's Honeyeater
Melithreptus chloropsis
Small honeyeater of eucalypt forests of southwestern Australia. Light olive above, whitish below, with black head broken by white band behind the eye and narrow white arc above it. Black of head extends to include tiny bit of plumage beneath black bill. Juvenile brown with yellow bill. Compare Brown-headed Honeyeater, which has a complete eyering connected to the neck band. Formerly considered a subspecies of White-naped Honeyeater.

One of the most common and widespread Neotropical swallows. Small and compact with notched tail. Generally dark above and white below; best field mark is black undertail coverts sharply cut off from white belly. Flocks can be seen in towns and cities, open fields, bodies of water, and over forest. Often perches on telephone wires.
