Tanager Finch
Oreothraupis arremonops
Distinctive finch-like bird restricted to cloud forest Andes of western Colombia and northwestern Ecuador. Plumage is chestnut-brown with a black head and silvery stripes on face and crown. Sexes look alike. Typically encountered alone or in pairs; stays low in dense vegetation, often along roadsides, and does not join mixed-species flocks. Song is a high-pitched, buzzy series of notes which may be repeated many times in a row.

The population of the Tanager Finch bird was reported as decreasing in 2018. The number of mature Tanager Finch’s ranges from six thousand to one thousand five hundred. There are no conservation actions in place, other than conservation sites within their habitat range. They are currently considered not globally threatened, although they were previously vulnerable. <p>The Tanager Finch has many threats to its well being. The most common threats being from deforestation and urbanization. These threats include residential and commercial development, transportation corridors, and wood harvesting. Agriculture and aquaculture also present threats to the Tanager Finch. This is due to annual and perennial non-timber crops, plantations, and livestock farming.

Long-tailed Honey-buzzard
Henicopernis longicauda
A large, long-tailed raptor of lowland and montane forest and clearings. Commonly seen in flight soaring in circles over the canopy with wing and tail feathers spread, showing strong barring. The only similar looking raptor that regularly soars is Pacific Baza, but Long-tailed Honey-buzzard has a streaked chest and lacks the buffy underwing and belly. When perched, similar to Doria’s Goshawk, but has yellow eyes and white legs. Usually silent.

Small parrot of lowland rainforest and savanna regions; more common in areas with sandy soils, but rarely seen well. Usually in small flocks that fly rapidly through or above canopy, settling into trees where they essentially disappear. When perched, best identified by small size and combination of blue rump and red outer tail feathers. In flight, gives drawn-out, complaining call note, very unlike calls of other parrots in range. Feeds on fruit.
Scaled Pigeon
Patagioenas speciosa
Handsome large pigeon of humid forest and edge in tropical lowlands. Usually seen flying overhead, less often perched in canopy of tall trees. The male is ruddy brown overall and the female is gray-brown overall. Both have a bright-red, creamy tipped bill and extensive dark scalloping and scaling on the neck, chest, and underparts. In flight, note the whitish belly that contrasts with the blackish underside to the tail.
