Atoll Fruit-Dove
Ptilinopus coralensis
A colorful dove, mostly green with a yellow belly, green wings, a silver neck and chest, and in the male, a limited magenta forehead patch. Similar to Makatea Fruit-Dove, but with much more washed-out coloring and pink instead of dark legs. The two species are unlikely to be found on the same islands. Call is a rising and falling series of typical dove-like coos.

The atoll fruit dove (Ptilinopus coralensis) is a species of bird in the family Columbidae. It is endemic to the Tuamotu archipelago in French Polynesia. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests and plantations. It is threatened by habitat loss.

The atoll fruit dove is widespread throughout the islands of the Tuamotu Archipelago, French Polynesia. In a 1999 survey it was found to be uncommon on five out of eight islands visited, but others have found it to be abundant on some atolls which have remained free from the ravages of introduced predators.

Dalmatian Pelican
Pelecanus crispus
Massive pelican with a disheveled appearance. Dirty white overall with a scruffy, upswept crest and black primaries (prominent only in flight). Adult has a bright orange pouch during the breeding season, yellow in the nonbreeding season. Can be confused with Spot-billed Pelican and Great White Pelican, but has a combination of pale iris, clean bill with no spotting, and gray legs. Frequents rivers, extensive wetlands, and estuaries, often in large flocks.
Holub's Golden-Weaver
Ploceus xanthops
Large weaver with a heavy black bill and pale eyes. Juveniles dull, with brown eyes; they can be identified by their overall structure and tendency to associate with more distinctive adults. Found in savanna, woodland, scrub, and cultivation. Usually nests near water. Vocalizations are typical of weavers, “chek” notes and a sizzling “radio static” song, though somewhat lower-pitched. Other golden-weavers are smaller and don’t have pale eyes.
Red-legged Kittiwake
Rissa brevirostris
Crisp small gull with very limited range; breeds on rocky cliffs on islands in the Bering Sea, from Alaska to Russia; winters on open ocean. Size and plumage most similar to Black-legged Kittiwake, but back is darker gray, yellow bill is shorter, legs are shorter and bright red, and underwing is darker gray. Nonbreeding birds have a dark smudge around eye and a thin gray ear patch. Young birds are similar to nonbreeding adults but with black bill, duller legs, and more contrasting wing pattern.
