Scarlet-faced Liocichla
Liocichla ripponi
Garish medium-sized laughingthrush-like bird. Olive overall with a bright red face and wing panels. Note pale eyes. Furtive and shy, typically foraging in dense undergrowth, often in mixed flocks, but also often singly or in pairs. Favors dense hill forest. Song is a repeated “chew-chew-weee?-chew”; gives dry rattling calls.

The scarlet-faced liocichla (Liocichla ripponi) is a bird in the family Leiothrichidae. The species was recently reclassified as separate from the red-faced liocichla, although some taxonomists consider it to be conspecific. It is found in Myanmar, Thailand, Vietnam, and southern China.

Red-faced Mousebird
Urocolius indicus
A slaty-gray mousebird with naked red facial skin and a buffy forehead. In flight, the streamlined tail is sleek and long, and a pale patch can be seen on the rump. Pairs and small groups occur in a wide range of wooded habitats, where they are resident and nomadic. In flight it gives a distinctive high-pitched melodious “ti-wii-wii” call.

Listen for a loud, descending series of whistles: “PEE-pee-pee-peer.”
Kandt's Waxbill

Pretty waxbill that is gray, black, and white, with red highlights. The bright red rump is conspicuous in flight. Found along forest edge and clearings, usually in grassy areas, in pairs or small flocks. The calls include high-pitched “tsik” and “tseet” notes which are often given in chorus by a flock, especially in flight. Similar to Black-crowned Waxbill, but darker and browner overall, with a black rather than white undertail.
