Long-tailed Bush Warbler
Locustella caudata
A fairly small, long-tailed bird of montane forest undergrowth. Dark brown above with an orange-brown belly, a gray chest, a white throat and eyebrow, mainly in front of the eye, and a long graduated tail which it often holds cocked. Very skulking. Similar to Benguet and Philippine Bush-Warblers, but has a longer tail and deeper brown belly. Song is a sharp “tik!” followed by a ringing high-pitched buzz.

Brasilia Tapaculo
Scytalopus novacapitalis
Small gray bird, typically fiendishly difficult to see in swampy gallery forest with ferns. Plump, with a short tail; note the cinnamon and black bars on vent. Like many tapaculos, the song is a long and monotonous repetition, in this case of a single “ewk” note.

Undulated Antshrike
Frederickena unduliger
Magnificent dark antshrike of mature upland rainforest. Has a large head with a crest and strongly hooked bill. Males are slaty gray with fine black barring; females are tawny orange with fine black barring. Larger than most other antshrikes and antbirds in its range. Forages singly or in pairs in open understory, and seems to be somewhat rare throughout its range. Its song is a gradually rising series of low whistles given at a steady pace.

Emerald-spotted Wood-Dove
Turtur chalcospilos
A small, dainty, pinkish-fawn, ground-dwelling dove with an all-dark bill and two rows of iridescent green spots on the wing. In flight it reveals bright rufous wings and three gray bands: two across the back and one across the tail. A common but inconspicuous resident of drier savanna and thickets. Melancholic song is similar to that of other wood-doves. The similar Blue-spotted Wood-Dove differs by having a reddish bill with yellow tip, by having iridescent blue spots on the wing, and by preferring moister wooded habitats.
