Long-tailed Bush Warbler

Handsome small seabird of Humboldt Current; not seen from shore, but breeds inland in Atacama Desert where it visits colonies at night to avoid predators. Plumage unlike all other storm-petrels, with black cap and collar, and white underparts contrasting with dark underwings. Upperparts also striking, with black cap, strong upperwing pattern, and gray tail (no contrasting white rump). Larger than most storm-petrels in its range, but size similar to Markham’s and Black Storm-Petrels, with which it readily associates.

A hulking game bird of rocky mountain slopes and cliffsides. Native to the Himalayas and adjacent mountain ranges, but has also been introduced in the Ruby Mountains of Nevada. Gray overall with patchy brown streaking on the breast and two dark brown lines running down the neck. Can be somewhat tame in protected areas, coming down to monasteries for food, especially during the winter.

Medium-sized bird of mid-montane forest. Fairly long tail is often held cocked. All glossy black with a white tuft in front of the shoulder. Female is slightly duller. Found in pairs and sometimes associates with other species. Often catches insects on the wing. Very similar to Black Fantail, but Fan-tailed Monarch has the distinctive white tuft and a different vocalization. Also, tail is only partially fanned. Voice, scratchy, grating notes.
