Turquoise Dacnis
Dacnis hartlaubi
A small tanager that is rare and local in the Andes of Colombia. Beautiful male is patterned in electric cerulean and black with an especially prominent black mask and a staring yellow eye. Female is grayish brown above and dull buffy below with a darker mask and a yellowish eye. Note its rather stout bill for a dacnis. Pairs occur in montane forest and edges from around 1,300 to 2,200 m, where they follow mixed-species flocks or feed from fruiting trees.

Dinelli's Doradito
Pseudocolopteryx dinelliana
Small yellowish flycatcher of marshlands in central and northern Argentina, moving north during the nonbreeding season. Similar to Subtropical, Warbling, and Ticking Doraditos, from which it is most easily identified by voice, but note brownish cap and brownish (as opposed to olive or gray) auriculars.
Golden-chested Tanager

Rare tanager restricted to very wet forest along the base of the Andes in northwestern Ecuador and western Colombia. Both sexes are deep blue with a brilliant yellow patch on both the breast and the lower underparts. Usually seen in middle to upper forest levels, and it tends to perch more vertically than other tanagers. It does not typically associate with mixed-species flocks.
Andaman Crake
Rallina canningi
A relatively large, rust-colored crake with a pale bill and barred black-and-white underparts. Very shy and skulking in dense woodland, where it forages on the wet forest floor. Known to be most active at dawn and dusk. Its loud and screechy “chraaw-chraaw-chraaw-...” often gives away its presence in the vicinity.
