Javan Scimitar-Babbler
Pomatorhinus montanus
An attractive, fierce-eyed babbler of tropical montane rainforest. Black head with thin, white eyebrow, white from the throat to mid-belly, contrasting strongly with remaining dark maroon body. Note the slightly decurved, yellow bill. Forages in noisy, small groups through the midstorey. Unmistakable if seen well. Calls variable, but commonly gives a soft “wu-tu” followed by a rising “whit!”, quickly repeated. Groups also give an excited chatter.

Green Imperial-Pigeon
Ducula aenea
Stately large pigeon, predominantly pearl gray with deep green wings and back. Birds of Sulawesi and the north Philippines have a gingery-orange nape patch. Inhabits forested areas from the lowlands up into the foothills, including edge areas and second growth near human habitation. Very vocal, with a wide repertoire: most common call is a throaty “rrruh-RUOOHH,” but various extended or pitch-altered versions of it are given as well.

Short-billed Gull
Larus brachyrhynchus
Small dainty gull. Dark-eyed and long-winged with a rounded head. Breeding adults are white-headed with an unmarked bill; non-breeding adults are smudged on the head and bill. Younger birds are brownish, with black-tipped pink bills. Occurs in western North America, primarily breeding in Alaska and Canada and wintering to Baja. Breeds in wetlands, meadows, and beaches; winters in waterside habitats and fields. Does not frequent large urban centers as much as some other gulls.

Fiery-throated Fruiteater
Pipreola chlorolepidota
Small, scarce fruiteater found in cloud forest in the eastern foothills of the Andes. Both sexes are mostly green. Male has a ruby-red throat and a yellowish belly. Female has a yellow chin and yellow scaling on the belly. Female is similar to female to Scarlet-breasted Fruiteater but smaller and with a black (not orange) bill. Feeds on berries in middle to upper levels in the forest, and often found in pairs.
