Western Barn Owl
Tyto alba
Medium-sized owl with a heart-shaped facial disc and deep dark eyes; in parts of its range the only Tyto owl present, but compare with larger and darker-winged African Grass-Owl where overlap occurs. Varies across a wide range, but always note white-and-black speckling on the upperparts, beautiful gray-and-tawny wings, and large round head. Color of the facial disc and underparts varies from pure white to rusty orange. Hunts in open areas by night, foraging with a slow and buoyant flight. Roosts in old buildings, tree hollows, caves, and nest boxes by day. Gives a bone-chilling, rising shriek, as well as shorter rasping calls.

Western Whipbird
Psophodes nigrogularis
Medium-sized gray terrestrial bird with long tail and pointed crest, found in thick heath and dense bushland of southwestern Australia and in ranges of southern South Australia. Plumage mostly gray, with pale tail tips and greenish tones in the wing. Black throat bordered by broad white moustache. Typically very shy and difficult to observe. Calls are long, rolling, whistled phrases.
Yellow-browed Bulbul

Yellow-green bulbul with a clean face and dark eyes. Inhabits foothill and lower montane forests; often in moist areas. Commonly encountered in pairs or small flocks, but will also join mixed-species flocks. Typically sticks to cover. Song is comprised of cheery whistles mixed with slurred warbles. Calls include warbles, clear “weeeep” notes, and short nasal notes.

Edolisoma dispar
A thrush-sized songbird. Male is entirely glossy-black, while distinctive female has a gray head, a brown back, and a buff underside with extensive barring. Singles, pairs, or small groups inhabit the canopy of forests, edges, and woodlands, from lowlands into foothills. Sometimes joins mixed-species flocks. Differs from Black-faced Cuckooshrike in lacking a clearly demarcated black face. Male is smaller and slimmer-billed than Wallacean Cuckooshrike. Song is a low, three-note rasping “gek-grrrt-grrrt.” Also gives a high-pitched “whit” call.
